My Testimony
I was born amidst the frozen winds of northern Minnesota, in the middle of the winter of 1956. I spent the first twelve years of my life up north, moving around quite a bit with my family. During this time, I developed a great love for music that continues to this day. I was raised Catholic in theory and ritual but having no real relationship with God to ground me, I eventually strayed.
When I hit the shores of sunny California’s Central Coast in 1967 (where I currently reside), the psychedelic scene was flourishing, and within a few years I was involved in the drug induced hedonism of the day. I was fascinated with and involved in the occult on many levels. I joined a band, grew as a musician, and eventually started writing my own music. By the age of twenty, I had pretty much outgrown the drug and occult stage, but I was still trying to find fulfillment.
During a tough time in my life, a musician friend of mine (who had just become a Christian and had landed a job as a church organist) told me about Christ and invited me to church. I took him up on his offer. I was surprised at how welcome I was made to feel, even though my hair was down to my waist and I looked like a wild man.
I accepted the Lord, and He changed me from the inside out.
My whole outlook altered and I started to get a more realistic view of myself. Ever since then, I’ve enjoyed a personal relationship with our Creator, and even though things haven't been perfect, I've never doubted that He holds the universe in his hands.
